Mindfulness for Teachers

My name is Gayle Creasey and I am an experienced trainer in mindfulness for teachers.

I have trained with Bangor University and the Mindfulness in Schools Project.

I am available to work in schools in Bucks, Berks and Hertfordshire.

Why offer mindfulness for teachers?

Working as a teacher and more generally in schools can be very stressful.

NUT research recently stated that over 80% of teachers experience stress, anxiety or depression at work and over 50% feel extremely stressed.

It is not possible to create a stress free school.  It is possible to provide teachers with mindfulness training to improve their resilience under pressure.

The benefits of mindfulness for teachers:

There is an 8 week mindfulness course designed to improve the well-being of teachers.  The Mindfulness in Schools Project created this course knowing that teachers are short of time and always under a lot of pressure.

Research shows that mindfulness increases:

  • well-being
  • sustained attention
  • teaching efficacy
  • compassion for self and others

Mindfulness for Teachers Taster session:

These sessions can be 60-90 minutes or a half day workshop and can be held after school or on an inset day.

The taster session gives staff an opportunity to engage with a new skill and stimulate interest for further training.  A half day workshop can be an excellent stand-alone session offering staff skills to improve emotional well-being and resilience at work.

All taster sessions provide the opportunity for teachers to feel the potential of mindfulness to improve their well being.

Mindfulness Foundation Course for Teachers:

The course consists of 8 x 90 minute sessions held after school.

Participants receive handouts and guided audio recordings after each session.  These resources enable the individual to integrate their new mindfulness skills into everyday life.

During the course you will learn how to:

  • increase awareness of the contents of your mind
  • pause and create a breathing space to centre yourself
  • respond to your thoughts and feelings skillfully
  • use mindfulness to gain a new perspective in stressful situations
